Susan Lautemann couldn’t be happier if she’s at the easel or in her gallery at 453 West End Boulevard. Painting was not on her radar screen for a few decades as she married George her husband of 27 years, raised three children (assisted with two more) as well as working at two careers. First in Human Resources and then in Marketing at Sara Lee and Hanes Brands for twelve years, Susan finished her MBA in 1978 at Wake Forest and created marketing plans for a cosmetic brand launch. Back at Wake Forest for a Master’s degree in Education in 1987, Susan opened Grace Court Counseling in 1991 where she has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor for seventeen years. Susan is a lifelong animal lover and currently cares for Molly and Tobey, her dogs. In 1997 she co-authored a book, and a two CD set, “Healing from the Loss of a Pet” an audio therapy session for pet loss and a CD called “Feeling Good” which includes four guided meditations for healing and stress relief.

When a friend suggested she come along to an art class, she shrugged not knowing it would be the beginning of a great passion. Her teacher was nationally renowned artist, Frank Rowland. Susan continued to take lessons over the next year From Frank. Also trained by Danny Hill, a fine professional painter, she has developed a bold style with distinctive brush strokes and bright colors in oil. Susan is a member of Associated Artists of Winston Salem where she often shows her work. Susan recently won second place in a juried art show titled “Summertime. “ Hampton House Gallery of Winston Salem carries Susan’s work as well. Susan is scheduled to show her work in several community exhibits in the next few months such as Arbor Acres, Frame It Gallery, Kim Taylor and Company Interior Designs and LA Reynolds Christmas Showcase. The West End Gallery is located in the heart of the downtown antique and art district of Winston Salem, North Carolina, the city of the Arts. The gallery has twelve to fifteen of Susan’s paintings as well as works from her friends and fellow artists. The West End Studio is just across the street with the windows filled with the latest works of Susan and her fellow artists.
